Three Design Continuum Fund (DCF) scholarship recipients are participating as speakers or featured artists during DC Design Week (DCDW) 2020: Mikea Hugley, Amuri Morris and Beverly Price.
Mikea Hugley, a 2017 recipient, will speak about her experience founding Makers for Humankind as part of the “WOMXN Entrepreneurs: How to Grow and Launch a Creative Business” event on Friday, September 25. She and three other womxn makers will discuss topics including: best practices on launching a business, growing a mission-driven brand and how to respond to obstacles and barriers.
Amuri Morris, a 2019 and 2020 recipient, was one of five artists selected from over 60 applications to design a limited edition poster for DCDW. Each artist received a $500 commission and will receive 60% of all proceeds from sales of their design. The posters are available at Cherry Blossom Creative’s Online Shop as an 11×17” poster or part of a postcard set.
Beverly Price, a 2020 recipient, will introduce DCF to attendees at Diversity Behind the Lens on Wednesday, September 23. This event features a panel of young POC photographers, photojournalists and artists sharing how their respective backgrounds shape their work.
AIGA DC is committed to fostering the next generation of designers by helping local, design-minded and underrepresented students pursue their education. 100% of profit generated by events during DCDW 2020 will go towards the DCF scholarship fund. DCDW 2020 kicks off on September 18, 2020 and runs through September 25, 2020.
