Criteria and Guidelines

AIGA Worldstudio and AIGA DC’s Design Continuum Scholarships benefit minority and economically disadvantaged students who are studying art and design disciplines in colleges and universities in the United States. While they both use the same application, AIGA DC will select recipients who are enrolled/attending DC, Maryland or Virginia colleges or universities.

Among our primary aims are:

  • To increase diversity in the creative professions
  • To foster social and environmental responsibility in the artists, designers and studios of tomorrow
  • To this end, scholarship recipients are selected not only for their ability and their need, but also for their demonstrated commitment to giving back to the larger community through their work.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States or be in possession of a Green Card (formally known as a Permanent Resident Card or Form I-551).
  • Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a design or art discipline and intend to pursue that discipline as a career.
  • Applicants must be matriculated (or planning to matriculate) at accredited colleges and universities in Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia for the Fall 2021/Spring 2022 academic year and must maintain full-time status for the entire year.
  • Incoming students who have yet to enroll must submit proof of acceptance from schools of choice.
  • Though not a requirement, minority status is a significant factor considered in jury decisions.
  • Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA.
  • Scholarships are only awarded to students who are in financial need; applicants must, therefore, provide complete financial aid information on the scholarship form and have the form signed by a financial aid officer
    • All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. PST by the EXTENDED deadline of April 20, 2021  (previously April 13) to be eligible for the 2021/2022 scholarship
